That’s right, it’s time to pull out your fanny-packs, bum-bags, belt-bags, waist-packs… whatever you wanna call ‘em, because this Saturday, March 12 is International Fanny-Pack Day. Ain’t no shame wearing one at any time of the year… just look to The Rock and Joey Tribbiani to boost your confidence… but, if there was ever a time to strap on this super handy design, it’s this weekend!

The creator of International Fanny Pack Day is a guy named Nick Yates and it’s been going since 2007. The inspiration came from a random encounter he had with a homeless man after a Christmas party. During the party, he got given a fruitcake and a fanny-pack as gag gifts. He must’ve been rather chuffed as he strapped on the fanny-pack and put the fruitcake inside, then headed home.

On his way to the bus stop, he was heckled about the fanny-pack, by a homeless man. Yates handed the man the fruitcake and carried on. An idea came to his mind; what if there was a way to combine the fanny-pack with feeding the hungry? And so, he reached out to food banks to get the ball rolling. He and others would go on to hand out food while wearing fanny-packs; a craze that’s been followed in over seven countries. Do a bit of a Google and
